An engine-tuning file is a binary software file containing calibration areas used by the ECU. It is not a document that can be judged by its filename or file size alone. Hardware reference, software version and the vehicle request must remain linked throughout the workflow.
What the file contains
Depending on the ECU and read method, the file may include calibration data, code and additional memory areas. Maps, limiters, curves and switches are represented as data structures, not as labelled sliders.
Why the exact version matters
Manufacturers release multiple software versions for the same engine. Two cars with the same badge can therefore require different base files and locations. Copying changes between versions without correct identification is unsafe.
